A wild walk in the Gorges de la Canche

Don’t expect a long, leisurely stroll along a perfectly flat path here! The Canche River has carved its way through the granite, creating steep-sided gorges where the water leaps between the rocks.
The trail follows this wild river, offering a complete change of scenery. Tree roots, boulders, moss-covered undergrowth, and small waterfalls punctuate the walk.
As you follow the water, you can also spot "giant’s cauldrons" astonishing hollows carved into the rock by erosion.
Designated as a State Biological Reserve and part of the Natura 2000 network, the Gorges de la Canche are home to a remarkably well-preserved natural environment.
Take the time to look up! The damp forest offers a beautiful variety of scenery, from majestic trees and moss-covered rocks to the play of light filtering through the foliage.
The wildlife is elusive but certainly present.
The white-throated dipper and the grey wagtail frequent the banks of the Canche, while various other bird species inhabit the woods.
This forest immersion is delightful when the waterfalls are flowing strongly, but also in autumn, when the Morvan is decked out in brilliant, fiery colors.
The classic loop covers approximately 8.6 km and takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes to walk.
The trail includes rugged and sometimes slippery sections, so be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring walking poles if needed.
